Ways to seize this day

Here are some different ways to Seize This Day!

  • Download my song ‘Seize this Day’ and sing along!!

  • Write a poem. Either get all your frustration out or write about the joyous things in life.
  • Make a list of things you want to achieve over the next 10 years. Be wild and crazy as well as practical and realistic.
  • Book an unusual experience. A sky dive, a white water raft experience. A Thai cookery lesson. Learn how to Salsa dance. Go to an art class.
  • Push dark thoughts away, replace them with positive ones.
  • See something entertaining. Go to the theatre, cinema, comedy club or karaoke night. Go to see a band play.
  • Pamper yourself. Have a hot bath with lovely bath salts. Get some good conditioner for your hair and a long armed brush to scrub your back with.
  • Go for a walk in the wilderness. Take some time to enjoy nature, watch birds and squirrels or see an amazing view.
  • Call an old friend or member of the family you haven’t spoken to in ages and just talk about positive stuff.
  • Join a therapy group or go to a counselling session. It makes you feel better to not feel alone in your worries and experiences.
  • Learn a joke and pass it on. In fact, ask every one you meet today to tell you a joke. Laughing makes you feel great.
  • Pamper someone you love, scrub their back in the bath or massage their feet. If you are single then take your best mate out for a meal.
  • Giving to others is sometimes a great way to feel better yourself.

  • Try some holistic healing. There are loads of different sorts. There is something for everyone. I’ve included a website for registered practitioners on the related links page.

Here are some ways to help your friend or loved one.

(These are just suggestions, some people hate to be made a fuss of. You know your family member or friend best so do what you know will help them.)

    • Download my song ‘Seize This Day’ and burn it to CD as a gift.

    • Get the dates of Dr’s appointments or treatments and text them a good luck message
    • Use the dates to plan nice days out. Distract them from the hard days to come.
    • Ask the question twice. “How are you? No, really, how are you?” We always say “fine” but it’s the last thing we are feeling!
    • Offer to take the children (If they have them) out for an hour or to pick up the ironing and do it for them. Let them sleep while you wash the pots or do the vacuuming.
    • Offer to keep the family/friends informed of treatment and progress so the patient doesn’t have to repeat themselves all day.
    • Feel free to share your own worries. Sometimes it’s easier to think about someone else’s problems than it is your own.
    • Don’t be offended if the person wants to be alone or if they snap at you or try to start an argument. We only get angry with the people we truly care about and it is such a confusing time. Cut each other some slack.
    • Treat your family member/friend to an holistic treatment. They can be expensive but make a great one off gift.

If you don’t have much money but want to help, write letters and emails about your friend/family members situation, some companies will donate treatments, tickets, gifts for people in very difficult circumstances. See the realted links page as there are some charities listed on there that offer great days out and special treats.
